LULAC Florida Convention 2025 to be Held at USF in May
On May 16-17, 2025, LULAC Florida is hosting its annual state convention to take place at the College of Education on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa.
The theme of the convention is Strengthening Florida Latino Citizens Through Leadership and Advocacy. In addition to the morning and afternoon assemblies there will be seven educational sessions for you to choose from, some sessions on leadership issues, others on civil rights, selfcare and resilience, ESOL education, and more. The 2024 newly established LULAC Collegiate Council at USF is one of the sponsors for the convention and they will have a student panel addressing the future of Latinx Leadership as we continue to empower the next generations of Hispanic leaders.
Go to https://lulacflorida.org/events/annual-state-convention/ for details on how to register. Discounts for early bird registration are available to members. If you cannot attend in person, there is an option to register and listen to the convention online for a reduced fee.
There are still opportunities for you, or your organization, to be a sponsor, exhibitor, or donate to the convention. Please contact us via website contact information or Dr. Jose Hernandez, convention chair, 910-508-9700.
On Friday May 16th at 5:30 PM we begin with a complimentary reception to network, meet and greet. Remarks on education will be provided by Dr. Jacob Diaz, Regional Associate Chancellor and Dean of Students from USF St. Petersburg.
Saturday at 8:00 AM we will have a hot buffet breakfast. At 9:00 AM LULAC Florida Officers will provide an update on the strategic direction and goals for LULAC Florida.
At 1:00 PM we will offer a lunch buffet and our keynote speaker will be Dr. Elizabeth Aranda, Sociology Professor at USF, and Director of the Im/Migrant Well-being Research Center. She will be discussing civil rights, as well her study findings on the effects on recently enacted Florida laws and their impact on Latinos in the state. Dr. Aranda also hosts a podcast that you can visit at rss.com/podcasts/immigrant-lives/.
This is one of the most important days to reflect and strategize to support the Hispanic community in Florida as we absorb all the changes that are taking place affecting our civil rights, immigration, education and health. This is an opportunity to recharge, invigorate with colleagues and refresh your advocacy work and leadership skills. Since knowledge is power, come to the convention to arm yourself with more information to be prepared for the many challenges we face as a community and individually.
The LULAC National organization has been supportive of LULAC Florida efforts to represent more of Latinos in Florida. You can also join us and consider membership as we navigate the impact these changes in Florida can have an impact nationwide.
